Jade Rabbit

According to Chinese mythology, Jade Emperor needed help making a potion of immortality. He pretended to be a starving old man begging food from a rabbit. As the rabbit could not gather any food for the beggar, he offered himself up as food. Deeply moved by the rabbit’s selflessness, the old man revealed himself as the ruler of Gods and saved the rabbit from being sacrificed. Afterwards, the rabbit was asked to make the immortality potions and live on the moon with the Goddess Chang’e.

Rebellious History of Mooncakes

With the aim of unifying various rebellious forces to fight against the Mongol-led Yuan dynasty, military strategist Liu Bowen put the secret note writing “Uprising on the 15th night of 8th lunar month” into the mooncakes before distributing them to other resistance groups throughout China. The strategy eventually worked out and the foreign rule was overthrown.

Around 4.5 billion years ago, two planets collided with each other. The massive impact ejected a significant amount of debris into space. Heavy materials, such as iron and nickel, from both planets mixed together to form a core at the centre of the new planet we now call Earth. Other rocky materials from both planets formed a ring that orbited Earth. The ring of rocky fragments was drawn into a ball of melted rock by its own gravity. It slowly cooled down to form the Moon.
